RACE A Chaser Syndication’s Megan Keeping has been retired after suffering a career ending injury.

The black bitch, by Cosmic Rumble out of Indigo Gem, injured her achilles when leading at Sandown Park on April 17, with connections making the decision to retire the black speedster to a life of luxury.

Megan Keeping was purchased by Race A Chaser Syndications after showing promise early in her career and she certainly didn’t disappoint, scoring 20 wins and 16 minor placings from 54 starts with $42,861 in prize money earnings.

Syndicate Manager Tatum Osborne Young said it was sad to see Megan retire, but said the syndicate members were proud of what she achieved throughout her time on the track.

“Megan has been a wonderful greyhound, taking her seven lucky owners on an exciting ride,” Osborne Young said.

“Not many greyhounds win 20 races, let alone against top class company and in the city, so she has done an incredible job throughout her career to remain racing at such a consistently high level for so long.

“It was very sad to see Megan injure herself last month, however she has since been to see a leading greyhound veterinarian and she is being given the best of care.

“While she will never race again, Megan will make a full recovery and will be back to her normal self in no time.”

Remarkably, Megan won at 10 different tracks across NSW and Victoria throughout her career, running some quick times at Dubbo (22.76 – 400m), The Gardens (22.67 – 400m), Maitland (25.09 – 450m), Wentworth Park (30.04 – 520m), Bendigo (23.94 – 425m), Ballarat (25.54 – 450m), Warrnambool (25.40 – 450m) and The Meadows (30.20 – 525m).

As well as her great record, Megan is also very well bred, with her dam Indigo Gem also producing Group 1 Perth Cup finalist Miracle from her next litter, to Magic Sprite, amongst several other city and TAB class chasers.

With bloodlines and some fast performances on the track, Osborne Young said the syndicate is excited for Megan to begin the next chapter of her career.

“We are definitely looking forward to Megan becoming a mum, we think she has what it takes to become a very good producer,” Osborne Young said.

“We haven’t decided on a sire for her yet, but we have plenty of time as we want to let her fully recover from her injury and give her the chance to unwind and have a bit of a break after a couple of hard years in full race work.”
