Megan Keeping On Target For Gardens Track Record

Megan KeepingRace A Chaser’s Megan Keeping will step out at The Gardens tomorrow afternoon for her second start at the track in race two from box seven, with glowing reports from her trainer Jason Mackay after a best of the day performance last Friday afternoon.

“I was hoping to get up the next morning and she wouldn’t have drunk any water and felt good; and she pulled up outstanding.”

“The track was a bit heavy from the maintenance done on it during the week and if the track wasn’t slow she would’ve given the 400m record a real shake,” said Mackay on Monday afternoon.

The daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Indigo Gem pinged the lids from box six last week, saluting by an astounding twelve and three quarter lengths in a flying time of 22.67.

Mackay’s aim is to ensure her race fitness continues to develop and hopefully target some feature races with her in the near future.

“I will let her tell me when she’s ready to step up. At the moment she has only had one start since July and I want to make sure she has a few good runs under her belt so she’s in peak physical condition.”

Since Friday’s performance, plenty of interest has been shown by potential shareholders, with only a few opportunities left.

Megan Keeping already has a promising breeding career locked in, and will be aiming for her sixth career win tomorrow from start number 11. Form analysts have rated her the best bet of the day for tomorrow’s meeting, but with rain in the Newcastle area the past couple of days, times may be slower than usual which could upset her chances of taking the track record.
