Jaguara impresses with tenacious win, set for rise in distance

JAGUARA proved he is a handy stayer in the making with a tenacious win over 650 metres at Warrnambool last Thursday and will now be aiming to record his third straight victory when he heads to Geelong on Friday night.

Despite being drawn awkwardly in box eight, Jaguara was able to work himself into a prominent position early, before unleashing a powerful mid race burst, assuming the lead and stretching out to score by just under two lengths in a BON 37.76.

Co-trainer Kelly Bravo said she was elated with the performance of the son of Mildean Panther and Flamingo Sands.

“I think he surprised everyone,” Bravo admitted.

“He got out well from box eight and somehow he managed to work his way through the field and miss all the trouble on the turn, but when he started making a move on them I thought by the time he got to the front that he would be buggered.

“He stuck on well at the end so we were really happy with the run, he is racing with a fair bit of confidence at the moment.

“It was probably his best run yet – it was great to see him chase as hard as he did and go in between other dogs – and he did against a couple of very handy 600 metre dogs too.”

‘Flash’ will now start from box three in race five at Geelong over the gruelling 680 metre trip, with the event being a country to city heat, the final of which will be run at The Meadows over 725 metres.

“It was a toss up whether to go for this series or some fifth grade heats at The Meadows on Saturday night, but the thing is once you win in the city you are no longer eligible for the bush races which are worth two or three grand,” Bravo explained.

“We figured we would try to get as many of them in as we can before we do (step him up) and he is coming along nicely, hopefully in a couple of months time he will make a nice 700 metre dog.”

Also representing Race A Chaser Syndications this week is Noakis Girl which will contest a 390 metre event at Warrnambool on Thursday night. The daughter of Big Daddy Cool and Noaki Pace will jump from box five in race nine following on from a respectable third over the track and trip last week.

Bravo said she was pleased with her most recent performance, her first start since injuring her stopper last month.

“She didn’t jump as well as we know she can and it was a lot harder race then what she is used to – there were five or six real handy dogs in the race.

“It wasn’t a bad run, I was happy with her, she ran on nice and she chased very hard which was good.”

Bravo said that she is expecting a good run from Noakis Girl.

“I think this week’s race is a little bit easier,” she said.

“She keeps drawing a little awkwardly, so you have to rely on the fact that she will jump, but she does normally show a fair bit of pace.

“We are very happy with her going into the race, she has pulled up well after her last run so it will be good to see what she can do.”
