MEGAN Keeping will be aiming to break her Melbourne metropolitan duck when she heads to The Meadows on Saturday night for a Grade five heat over the 525 metre trip.
The daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Indigo Gem is trained by leading husband and wife duo Brett and Kelly Bravo and heads to the city following an honest second at Sale last Sunday.
Jumping fairly from box four, Megan overcame some early congestion to run a close second behind Cosmic Lily, beaten just over one length in a handy 25.02 over the 440 metre trip.
“She jumped well at Sale but she got hampered a bit early before she could get going which cost her a bit of ground – overall we were happy with the run,” Kelly Bravo said.
“It was a nice run and she stuck on well at the end so we made the decision to give her another go in town to see if she can pinch a race.”
Megan has drawn box two against a handy field including Gawker Bale (box three), Opus Forte (box five) and Eren Bale (box seven), however Kelly still gives her a strong shot.
“She has drawn well, but she is going to have to do everything right as there are a couple of handy ones in the race.
“One thing she does have on her side is experience and the fact that her main threats aren’t boxed very well so if she can find the front early she should run a nice race.”
The black bitch has been a terrific money spinner for the Race A Chaser Keeping Syndicate. From 45 starts Megan has collected 19 wins and 14 minor placings – meaning she has finished in the money in over 73% of her career starts – with over $36,000 in prize money earnings.
“She very rarely runs a bad race so as long as she gives herself a chance at the start she will be right in it.”
In more positive news for Race A Chaser Syndications, Jaguara is well and truly on the comeback after injuring his hock late last year. The budding stayer has had two trials; over 300 and 425 metres and should be back on the track within the next month.
Also on the way back from injury is the talented Noakis Girl which injured her shoulder in a trial two weeks ago. Kelly reported that the soreness from the shoulder is now gone and that Noaki will resume training over the next seven days.
“We will have another look at it (her shoulder) on Monday morning and if it is ok we will put her back into full work this week and then look at giving her a trial the week after.
“I think she is still couple of weeks away from racing, but she is feeling good at the moment so hopefully she can get back into work and see how she goes.”
Megan Keeping has drawn box two in race five at The Meadows on Saturday night which is scheduled to jump at 8:37pm AEDT.
