Megan Keeping’s Sizzling Gardens Debut

Megan KeepingRace A Chaser’s Megan Keeping was simply sensational this afternoon in taking out a 5th grade event at The Gardens, recording a sizzling best of the day time of 22.67.

Starting at skinny odds of just $1.90, the daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Indigo Gem was having her first start for astute Hunter Valley mentor Jason Mackay and didn’t disappoint; recording a blistering early sectional of 10.84, with a run home time of 11.83. Even more pleasing for her new trainer and potential shareholders, was the announcement made by GRNSW prior to the meeting that after the track had received surface maintenance upgrades this week, times were expected to be slower than normal.

Megan gapped her rivals heading into the back straight and streaked away by twelve and three quarter lengths at the finish. She recorded her fifth career win today from just start number ten, with plenty of improvement to come according to Mackay.

“That was her first start since July, so she’s still not fully race fit. Once she get’s a few more consistent runs under her belt, I’m pretty confident we will see just how good she can go.”

“That track (The Gardens) was slow today and her run was enormous.”

Mackay knows it’s only early days, with improving her health and fitness his top priority.

“As long as she pulls up alright from this run and doest have any major issues I’ll be happy. I’m not going to rush her into anything until i know she’s ready to step up past 400m and that takes time to build stamina.”

A decision is yet to be made yet on where she will start next, however i’m certain their will be plenty of keen onlookers as Megan stamped her authority today as an extremely talented up and coming sprinter.
