Race A Chaser team update: Jaguara set for city debut

THERE is no stopping Race A Chaser Syndications.

Since our team began racing with leading trainer Kelly Bravo in September, we have had 17 starts for eight wins and six minor placings, with five of those victories being in best of night times – not bad considering we only have three greyhounds in work.

Racing continues this week for the team, with the first to face the starter being Jaguara. The son of Mildean Panther and Flamingo Sands was desperately unlucky in a semi final of the Vic Breeders Maiden series at Bendigo last week, finishing third behind Carbon Racer which clocked best of night figures.

Jaguara now heads to Sandown Park on Thursday night, with Bravo intending to get some more miles into his legs before stepping him up over the middle distance trip. The black dog has drawn box eight in race one for his debut at the track, the event scheduled to jump at 7:09pm AEDT.

“It probably would have been better for him to be drawn on the inside, but because he can be a little slow early I am hoping that he will be able to miss it and then drop back to the fence,” Bravo said.

“We will work him through the low grades over the 500 and then we will look at stepping him up over a bit more ground to see how far he can run – at this stage he does look like he will get a bit further.”

On Friday night the action continues for our syndicates, with both Megan Keeping and Noakis Girl set to race at Bendigo.

Megan Keeping, a winner of 16 from 34, will be stepping up to the 500 metre trip for the first time since joining Bravo’s kennel. She comes into the event following a respectable third at Shepparton over 450 metres on Monday night.

Bravo said she was happy with the last start effort, with Megan using up a lot of energy trying to cross the leader in the early stages.

“There was only a couple of lengths in the finish and the winner ran the best of the night so you can’t complain.

“From box seven she had the four on her inside and it was wanting to get off the track while she was trying to get to the fence and that would have taken a lot out of her.

“She is chasing very hard – so even though she did get run down the other day you can’t be too disappointed in her because she is trying her best.”

Bravo is hopeful Megan will be able to jump to the front on Friday night so she can figure out if the daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Indigo Gem is likely to be able to run out a decent 500.

“She has box five over the 500, which again is a nice step up to see if she will get the extra ground,” Kelly said.

“I know she won a couple over the 500 in NSW but at this stage we are not too sure how competitive she will be down here, but if she gets to front easily on Friday then we should get a fairly good indication on how she will run it out.

“If she begins like she can I think she can lead early, I am just hoping that she will be in front at the finish line.”

Megan Keeping will jump from box five in race nine which will be run at 5:44pm AEDT.

Our last greyhound to compete this week will be Noakis Girl, which has also drawn box five and will contest race 12 at Bendigo over 425 metres at 6:49pm AEDT.

It is a rise in distance for the promising bitch which has won four of her five career starts, all of which have been over the 390 metres at Ballarat at Shepparton, three of which have been in best of night figures.

“She is really quick early and so far in her career she has been really reliable, on top of that she is a hard little chaser and she seems to have some brains about her too,” Bravo said.

“She hasn’t really put a foot wrong since she started her career. At her first start at Geelong I think she just got a little bit lost in the field and didn’t really know what she was doing, but since then she has put it all together.”

Bravo is confident the daughter of Big Daddy Cool and Noaki Pace will run out the extra distance on Friday night.

“Her run home at Ballarat was enough to suggest that she should be able to handle a rise in distance and the 425 at Bendigo this Friday will be a nice step up for her.

“If she gets a clear, unimpeded run we will be able to work out from her run home times whether she will get any further.”
